When you are making your plans for Saint Patrick's Day, you should consider creating a festive outfit that includes a St Patricks Day hat. In fact if you plan on going out with a group of people, you can all get St Patricks Day hats. This holiday is on March 17 every year, and in 2011, this date falls on a Thursday.
St. Patricks Day in an Irish Pub!
If you want to go out on the Thursday, you should plan to take the following day off school or work because St Patrick's Day traditionally involves a lot of Irish bands and drinking. If that is not possible and you still want to have a great time, then you should just delay your party until Friday or Saturday night. Chances are that if you live in a reasonably sized town, you will have an Irish pub. Look online to see if your town has one, and if they do check out their website. If the pub does not have a website, call them and ask them what their plans for the holiday weekend are. If they are hosting Irish bands or a corn beef dinner, than that is probably the best place to wear your St Patricks Day hat for the evening.
Saint Patrick
The reason that the Irish tend to celebrate St Patrick's Day more than other cultures is that St Patrick is their patron saint. Historically, saints' days are declared by the Catholic Church to commemorate a saint. In fact, the church has a different saint day every day. This saint in particular is important to Ireland because they credit him with bringing Christianity to them. When St Patrick arrived in Ireland during the 400's, Ireland, like much of the world at that time, was primarily a pagan or polytheistic culture, but he converted many of them to Christianity. He died on March 17, 432, and about one thousand two hundred years later, he was declared a saint.
What Do St Patricks Day Hats and Shamrock Have in Common?
Although you can find many different sorts of St Patricks Day hats, you will notice that they are primarily green in color. The reason for this color is that it is the same color as the shamrock. The shamrock is a prolific feature in much of Irish culture and mythology, but it relates to St Patrick, in particular, because he used the three leaves of the shamrock to explain the trinity to the Irish.
Don't Get Pinched This St. Patricks Day!
The serious history of the holiday is not as important now as it once was, and with the right St Patricks Day hat, you can be the fashionable life of the party. Remember to wear green so you do not get pinched.
