Green Concealer - Conceal Acne and Unwanted Marks
By Berry Spoke
Acne makeup kits will normally include some type of green cream or lotion. Actually, it is not just acne cosmetics which use green concealers.
People who need to put on stage makeup usually use a greenish foundation as their base makeup.
How To Apply Green Concealer
Why Green is Used for Concealing Acne and Unwanted Marks on the Skin
The right mixture of green, red and white pigments will give you a grayish color. If you mix just the red and the green you get shades of brown, the more red you have, the more the brown tends towards orange or reddish brown. By adding white pigment to your brown color you can come up with various depths of gray.
Acne makeup (or base makeup for the stage) is usually a combination of green and white pigment. When the cream, paste or lotion is applied on the skin, it tones down the color of the skin in that area to a grayish tint, effectively concealing the whatever blemishes are there.
That forms the base of your acne makeup on which you need to apply a foundation whose flesh color matches your skin tone. The light gray base serves to bring out better the color of the top layer of makeup.
The Main Shades of Green Concealers
Green concealers may be simply green or tinged with yellow or blue. The basic green shades are appropriate for concealing reddish blemishes on fine and fair skin. If you have issues about dark spots and wrinkles on the face, you can conceal these better using yellow-green tints which tend to brighten up the skin. On the extreme end, for women (or men) who have flushed or reddish complexions, concealers with a bluish tint will work best.

The Effects of Green Concealers
Your green concealer is not usually the principal layer of your makeup. Instead, it is often used before an outer foundation to make the tones of that main layer come out better. Unless you are fixing yourself up for a Halloween party, you don’t normally use plain green make-up.
There are people who prefer to place the concealer after their main foundation. This serves to lighten the foundation itself.
On the other hand, for hiding really troublesome blemishes, the right shade and amount of concealer can be effective if properly smoothed out…even without additional foundation.
Sampling the Concealer is Important Before Buying
You will probably have to sample the results of the concealer on your skin before purchasing it. Even if you can find a vendor who has color charts showing the specific shade produced by a specific concealer, your skin tone may be different from that of the model.
In order for the color of your main foundation to show, your concealer should make the skin paler in that area. Otherwise, the concealer will just darken your face and give you unflattering results. If you have ever watched people being made-up in salons, you might have noticed that the preliminary greenish foundation gives their face a light shade of pale.
So before purchasing your green concealer, try to convince the vendor to let you sample the product first.
