The story goes that he was a German scientist who became so obsessed with masochistic surgical tendencies and mechanics that he converted himself into a zombie like cyborg with a heart that can be wound like a clock. His costume is equally erratic. He has a gas mask that filters out bacteria and hides his hideous face. He also wears a Nazi army uniform and trench coat that signifies his former life and allegiance. His preferred weapons are custom made knives and swords that he keeps hidden in his coat sleeves.

 Abe Sapien: He is an amphibian character with telepathic and telekinetic abilities. He can breathe underwater having developed a set of gills. He has large amphibian like eyes as well as pale clammy skin that gives him the typical amphibian look. His costume is all encompassing and would work well for an incognito look.

Now you know the characters and a lot more about Hellboy. Hellboy is one of the popular good guys among children because of his rough appearance and great one-liners. He appears in the movie a little bit grumpy but at the end he has a little heart and cares about his environment.
